The VITA project responds to the rapid digital transformation of vocational education and training. While digitalisation has already reshaped many aspects of VET, the emergence of artificial intelligence presents new opportunities and challenges for schools, teachers, and learners. AI-related competences are becoming an essential part of digital literacy, making it necessary for VET teachers to understand, evaluate, and meaningfully apply AI tools in their everyday teaching practice.
VITA supports VET institutions in rethinking their digital strategies by embedding artificial intelligence into standard curriculum lessons across all subjects and professions. By combining AI with active and student-centred learning methodologies, the project helps teachers foster engagement, innovation, and future-ready competences among learners.
The project aims to empower vocational education and training (VET) teachers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching practice. By combining AI with active learning methodologies, VITA promotes a student-centred approach that enhances engagement and supports the development of future-ready competences among learners.
The long-term goal is to embed AI into VET education by incorporating it into regular curriculum lessons, regardless of the subject or profession. This innovative approach prepares students to adapt to rapid technological developments and to thrive in an AI-powered world.
Conducting a self-assessment (SELFIE) to evaluate teachers' current AI knowledge and AI skills in their teaching practice. Collaboration with industrial partners to gain insights and ensure that the approach reflects real labour market needs. This result means a warm-up for schools, engaging them in discussions with companies to identify the skills and competencies future employees will need in an AI-driven job market. Through workshops, consultations, and needs assessments, schools gain insights into industry expectations, helping them align their teaching strategies with real-world demands.
The co-designed curriculum based on the findings collected by the SELFIE results and at the workshops in schools containing 6 modules: Module 0 - Myths and misconceptions surrounding Artificial Intelligence Module 1 - Introduction to main concepts of Artificial Intelligence Module 2 - AI in the economic sectors Module 3 - AI for supporting students’ learning, pedagogical integration Module 4 - AI to support and enhance teaching practice – Practical Teacher Toolkit Module 5 - AI in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of VET educators.
Teachers attend the "AI-powered teaching for VET" training course piloted in the partner countries in a blended form. As a result of their studies about AI integration in their teaching work, they prepare their own AI-enhanced lesson plans, microlearning units and prepare their own personal AI strategy for continuous professional development (CPD). For deeper self-assessment they repeat the SELFIE survey.
An open-source online learning environment for teachers that supports self-directed learning, microlearning paths, and continuous professional development. The educational platform called Digital Menu Card (DMC) is multilingual and has the capacity to bring educators together for improving their AI skills and competences in applying technology in their daily teaching activities. It is also a venue of creation of lesson plans and microlearning units with the using of developed content creation tools inbuilt.
Compiling the results into case studies and best practices to be shared across the European VET community through an open-source eBook.
